Leslie Oaks, Ph.D.

Leslie S. Oakes, is Department chair and an Associate Professor the Anderson Schools of Management, University of New Mexico. She received her Ph.D. in Business Administration—Accounting and her Masters Degree in Health Care Fiscal Management from the University of Wisconsin. Her research focuses on the social and historical role of accounting, primarily in community health and nonprofit organizations. She has published in Accounting, Organizations and Society, Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, the Accounting Review and the Administrative Science Quarterly, among others. Most recently, her research has been included in Performance Management in Nonprofit Organizations: Global Perspectives, a collection published by Routledge in 2015. Dr. Oakes has actively supported the nonprofit community working with over 50 small and medium-sized across New Mexico and the Navajo Nation. She has won awards for her research, community service and teaching.
