John P. Reed

After high school, I spent three years in the Army (Airborne Infantry) before beginning my education at the University of Missouri.  I had a dual major in finance and accounting and graduated magna cum laude.

I then attended Harvard Business School where I graduated with honors in 1978 with a concentration in General Management.

I worked for Citicorp in finance, assigned to the Product Development Group.  We were charged with developing new financial programs and instruments for Citicorp.  An opportunity came along for a promotion, but it was in Marketing.  I moved into that area and found I loved it…never looked back.

I spent a total of 20 years in the corporate world, about 10 years of this in program management.  I eventually moved up to VP of Marketing for MBI, Inc., a large east coast direct response marketer.

I left the corporate world to open my own consulting practice, specializing in direct marketing.  I did this for 15 years.  Major clients included: Walt Disney Company, Mattel, Time, Inc., Lands’ End, Ross-Simons among others.  I also worked with a lot of mid-sized companies and start-ups.

I retired 7 years ago and decided it was time to try to ‘give back’ some of the lessons I’d learned from people who helped me along the way.  Teaching has been a great way to accomplish this.
